Embracing your body – Tips for feeling safe and secure

Self-development

Written by Sophie Parienti

Feeling secure in our bodies is essential for our mental and general well-being. It is a significant asset to face the obstacles and challenges of our daily life calmly.

Being safe in a strong and healthy body means not fighting or struggling with it. It means being energetic, peaceful, calm, and empathetic but also open to others; because our relationship with our body is not unrelated to our relationship with the people we meet on our way.

However, there are times when we feel insecure and unconfident in our bodies. The reasons for this can be many: trauma and bad past experiences, physical health problems, social pressures, etc. These factors can lead to vulnerability, suffering, fear, or an over-concern for physical appearance.

Recognizing the root causes of your feelings of insecurity in your body is essential to experiment with safety. But without going into the introspective work that this identification sometimes requires, you can adjust and change your relationship with your body and your feelings about it by following the tips below.

Listen to your body.
Pay attention to how your body feels and respond accordingly; if you are tired, take a nap. If you are tired, take a nap. If you are stressed, take a walk or breathe deeply.

Take time to breathe.
Take a break and breathe calmly and deeply whenever you think of it. Breathing releases tension, regulate emotions, and grounds you in your body.

Meditate.
Meditation bridges the gap between mind and body. It lowers cortisol levels in the body, reducing stress’s physical symptoms. That is why we often feel so good about our bodies after just 15 minutes of meditation.

Practice mindfulness.
Be aware of your thoughts and feelings that negatively impact your body. Distance yourself from them. You will feel better.

Exercise regularly.
Regular physical activity can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, boost overall well-being and make you feel safe in your body.

Shake off stress regularly.
Shaking the body helps to release muscle tension and contractures, increase circulation and range of motion, improve overall fitness, and keep you grounded.

Get enough sleep.
Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night to help your body repair and regenerate.

Take care of your health.
That is essential to feel safe in your body. Avoid anything that can weaken your health (tobacco, alcohol abuse, etc.).

Eat a balanced diet.
Ensure you eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins to give your body the necessary nutrients to function correctly.

Stay hydrated.
Drinking enough water is essential to maintaining physical and mental health.

Dare to enjoy yourself.
Take the time to care for your body so it pleases you. Not according to the criteria of the beauty of the moment but rather to the image that it reflects you.

Create a support system.
Surround yourself with people who care about you and who you can lean on during difficult times. Get help from a therapist if you feel overwhelmed.

Practice safe body mechanics.
Pay attention to how you move your body and practice proper posture and body mechanics to avoid injury. Your body is the vehicle of your soul; take care of it!

Nurturing a sense of security in one’s physical form is paramount to overall well-being. To remind my clients of this or to help them become aware of it, I compare the body to a temple, a sacred vessel that deserves to be honored and respected as part of the journey to self-love.

By prioritizing Listening to your body, taking time to breathe, meditating, practicing mindfulness, exercising regularly, shaking off stress regularly, taking care of your health, getting enough sleep, take care of your health, eat a balanced diet, stay hydrated, daring to enjoy yourself, creating a support system, and practice safe body mechanics, you will develop a sense of security and safety within yourself.

Of course, this doesn’t happen overnight. But with willpower, regular practice, and perseverance, you will quickly feel the positive effects of your commitment on your relationship with your body.

And because, to get rid of it more surely, you must remember to go to the root of your insecurity, being supported and guided is an option you must consider.

Lastly, remember that the key is cultivating a deep connection with your body to understand it so that you can respond to its needs with care and compassion.
