What if all it took was you to transform your relationship?
Written by Sophie Parienti
Your relationship is conflicted, and you can’t find a way out. You seem to have tried everything but to no avail; you are going in circles and beginning to despair. You have one hope left; to seek the help of a couple’s therapist.
But your partner is not ready for this. The mention of the words “therapist” or “marriage counselor” or even the suggestion of seeking support from your best friend makes their hair stand up.
Don’t let that get you down!
Your situation is far from hopeless. Because it doesn’t take two people to make a positive change in your relationship; as long as your partner shares your intention to have a better and more fulfilling relationship, anything is still possible!
You may wonder how couple therapy can be effective without both being involved…
Well, it’s simply because all transformation begins with yourself.
Trying to influence the other person, control their thoughts and behaviors, and make them see what you see is not in your power. However, you can transform your understanding and interpretation of your experience of the relationship and, therefore, of your reality.
This shift in perspective will result in a change in your reactions and behaviors, and your partner, without your prompting, will gradually change in response to your transformation. They may even want to explore what led you to such a personal evolution.
But what has enabled you to make such changes? Only your therapist? No, of course not.
It is the tools they will have put at your disposal to recover your self-esteem, confidence, and your power to act and decide on your life.
But above all, to get out of your relational conflicts, it will be the courage and willingness to make a change and give yourself the means to overcome your challenges to live your relationship to its highest infinite potential!
